How to Remove Beer Stains from Carpets and Upholsteries

Date posted: 22 November 2016

It doesn't need to take long to remove a beer stain from your carpet - particularly if you act quickly and clean it up as soon as possible after it was spilt.

Follow these steps to get good results:

  1. Gently blot up the spilt beer using a clean, white cloth or pieces of kitchen towel, making sure you blot inwards rather than outwards or you risk spreading the stain even further. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing at your carpet.

  2. Mix together two cups of cool water with one tablespoon of washing up liquid to use as your cleaning solution. Alternatively, you can mix up a solution of two-thirds of a cup of surgical spirit with one tablespoon of white vinegar.

  3. Again, use a clean cloth dipped in a small amount of your cleaning solution to sponge the beer stain. Use only as much of the solution as you really need – because you want to avoid soaking the carpet.

  4. Blot the stain until all of the liquid has been absorbed.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the beer stain has been completely removed.

  6. Complete the process by using a small amount of cold water and a fresh, clean, white cloth to sponge the area once again to remove any residual cleaning solution.

  7. Blot dry.

You can follow exactly the same steps to remove a beer stain from upholstery.
