Acrow Prop Hire
For acrow prop hire and trench prop hire visit Best at hire, your National tool hire centre .
Many of our customers need to hire builders' props, also known as acro supports, in order to temporarily support a structure safely and securely in a construction environment, whilst work is being carried out – or to transfer a load. They are mostly used for shoring up structures as opposed to scaffolding which is often used as an access platform for workers.
You can hire acrow props in a range of five BS standard sizes:
- size 0 from 3.5 feet (1.1 m) to 6 feet (1.8 m)
- size 1 from 5.75 feet (1.75 m) to 10.25 feet (3.12 m)
- size 2 from 6.5 feet (2.0 m) to 11 feet (3.4 m)
- size 3 from 8 feet (2.4 m) to 13 feet (4.0 m)
- size 4 from 10.5 feet (3.2 m) to 16 feet (4.9 m)
It is basically a telescopic tubular steel prop that can be adjusted for height, and both acro props and strongboys are easy to position and fully adjustable within the height range of the chosen prop – Best at hire supply a range of sizes of acrow props as well as the Stongboy wall prop and trench props.
Working out the propping height
It is vital to use the correct length prop for each job, so you will need a measurement of the height or distance that you are planning to prop. Never use props that are too short by making up the gap using timber or some other type of packer - this could be dangerous. Also, if your propping distance is just on the limit of the fully collapsed prop, it might be better to opt for the next size down in order to be certain that there is adequate adjustment in the prop in case of a slight variation on site.
Working out acrow props' capacity
Your site engineer or equivalent should be able to tell you how much the overhead structure will weigh in order to work out what loads will need to be supported by the prop. If the load is higher than a single prop's capacity, you can use several props to increase the supported load. For health and safety it is obviously key to make sure that whenever you use a construction prop, the structure at both the base and the head of the prop are totally solid.
