Concrete and Cement Mixers in Stoke

For concrete mixer hire in Stoke visit Best at hire, your local tool hire centre.

Need to hire an electric or petrol concrete mixer? Achieve a professional, smooth consistency quickly and easily with our high quality concrete mixing equipment – including models from the world's top manufacturers such as Baromix, Belle and Makita.

Whether you are a trade or a domestic customer, you can find suitable cement mixer hire products in our range. At one end of the scale there are small concrete mixers that are ideal for small DIY projects at home or in the garden, such as creating a garden path or a foundation for a small shed. At the opposite end of the spectrum we can supply heavy duty concrete mixers for use in challenging industrial settings – including models incorporating high-spec gear boxes; safe foot-operated tipping locks; rigid mixing drums; and a clever paddle design to create a more consistent mix.

How to mix concrete

It is easy enough to mix concrete but be careful how much water you add if you want to achieve its potential in terms of strength and how long it will last. If it is too 'soupy' it will be weak and prone to cracking.

Start by pouring a known amount of water into the mix from a bucket (rather than spraying randomly with a hose). Carry on mixing it for several minutes after the water has been absorbed – since the concrete's consistency may become more 'soupy' the more you mix. Add a little more water if necessary until you achieve the desired consistency. Keep aside some dry concrete mix so that if your mix becomes too soupy you can add some more dry ingredients. As a general rule, for each lb (or kg / other unit) of cement, you need a minimum of 0.25 lbs (or 0.25 kg / 0.25 of relevant unit) of water. Usually people use more water than this, however, to make it easier to mix and give it better flowability – but do not get carried away adding too much or your concrete will be weak! Water-cement ratios of 0.4 to 0.6 are usually fine. If you need higher-strength concrete stick with lower water:cement ratios then add plasticizer to improve flowability.
